Stamford, Connecticut (convenient downtown location, near I-95 or the Metro North train station)

Wednesday, November 5th, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Manhattan (NY)

You've always wanted to write a book, everyone's told you that you should write a book, but somehow you've never gotten around to it. Or you've started a book many many times but always put it aside. This seminar will help demystify the process of writing a book and get it published while emphasizing the importance of research, writing, and rewriting, for nonfiction, and of creativity and having a fresh plot and characters, for fiction.

This workshop provides the nuts and bolts of writing a nonfiction book proposal, including developing a book outline and marketing plan, so you can interest a literary agent or approach a publisher on your own. Creating a workable schedule for taking your book from idea to printed copy. How to find an agent or a publisher. What book authors need to know about the book publishing industry. Self-publishing pros and cons will also be discussed.

Jan Yager (jyager@aol.com) is author of 20 nonfiction and fiction books. Her first nonfiction book was published by Scribner's when she was 26. She's worked at two publishing companies and run her own small press, Hannacroix Creek Books, Inc., since 1996. Jan also publishes through major houses. Her latest book is When Friendship Hurts (Simon & Schuster, Inc., Fireside Books, 2002) (http://www.WhenFriendshipHurts.com), featured on "Good Morning, America" and in the New York Times, sold to 7 countries and 4 book clubs. She is author of Effective Nonfiction and Business Writing and has taught nonfiction writing at Penn State. Her first novel, Untimely Death, co-authored with Fred Yager, and called "a winner" by the Associated Press, was translated into Swedish and published by Kentaur Press in Malmo, Sweden.
